The day we were brought into this world our fight began. We foolishly believe and teach that there is some good in everyone. Romans 3:10 says there is none righteous, not even one. Isaiah 64:6 says ALL our righteousnesses are as filthy rags, the literal translation is used menstrual cloths. We see the sin nature within our children, learning very quickly that we do not have to teach them to lie, to rebel, or to sin. It is our nature from birth, and there are forces bent on the tweaking of that nature so as to bring us to destruction. But, praise be to the Captain of the Lord's hosts who set us free, and became the ultimate sacrifice, our King Jesus Christ.
Our war is won, the victory has been claimed, yet everyday brings new battles. Battles in which the eternal destination of the masses, of the captive is decided. Who are we to withhold truth? What manner of man am I if I hold back Living Water from those that thirst unto death? The catch to all this, however, is that I must be filled myself. Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. Jeremiah 17:9 tells us that the heart above all things is desperately sick and deceitful, so how can good come from it? Only through the redemption of Jesus Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
As I said before we must be filled to the point of overflowing! Because out of that abundance and overflow our mouth speaks. If we fill ourselves with the word of God, and build ourselves up in prayer through His Spirit, we will speak eternal things, wonderful things and the blessings of God into the lives of the captive. If our focus is on Christ, if he is our first love, and we keep the King before our eyes, He will guide us. Opportunities will flourish to spread the Gospel, to disciple the young in Christ, to be a light of freedom and life in this world of darkness.
So many times I have heard Christians tell unbelievers you need to change this, and you need to stop this its wrong. Why?! What motivation does a non-christian have to change their lifestyle. My best friend Rob on our first deployment together, for almost 30 years had heard nothing but that he needed to stop doing things and change his lifestyle. Not once, until that night in the spring of 2008 did he hear that God loves you, so much so that He sent His son to become sin for us. When someone is saved their eyes are opened, that is when real change can begin. We must revive the Gospel within ourselves, our churches, our lives. Paul said it best in Romans 15:3-4 "Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures."
What scripture was Paul referring to? In the book of acts what did the apostles and disciples preach from many times? On the road to Emmaus in Luke 24:27 it says, "And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself." This is all referencing the old testament. The prophecies fulfilled by our Christ are absolutely incredible. We must take up our sword and learn it to the fullest extent. John 5:39 Christ says that the scriptures testify Him. I say that everything within the old testament and the new all points to Jesus Christ. We must take His message, His story, and His love to the lost. He brings life, He has won the war, and this is how we win the battles. Not for our glory, but for Christ, our Lord and coming King.
